Multiple Issues Introduced after Software Version 17.33

Hello Garmin Support,

I would like to report several issues that I have experienced on my Garmin Forerunner 570 since updating to software version 17.33. Prior to version 17.33, I did not encounter any of these problems.

1. Strength Training activity cannot be stopped after long sessions

During longer strength training workouts, the Start/Stop button sometimes stops responding. As a result, it is no longer possible to end the activity normally. The only workaround I have found is to start a rest period and wait for some time, after which the activity can eventually be stopped again.

2. Daily Suggested Workout not always displayed

When starting a running activity, the Daily Suggested Workout is sometimes not shown, even though it would normally be available.

3. Training Status – Load Focus appears incorrect

The Load Focus metrics do not seem to reflect my actual training. Despite completing many anaerobic running workouts, the watch still reports an anaerobic shortage. This makes me question whether the anaerobic load is being calculated correctly.

4. Focus Modes cannot be activated for non-Garmin activity apps

It appears that Focus Modes can only be used with Garmin activities. I am unable to activate or use Focus Modes with activities from third-party apps. I am not sure whether this is an intended limitation or a bug.

5. Sleep/Night display sometimes does not show battery percentage

The Sleep/Night display occasionally fails to show the battery status. At times, the battery percentage is simply missing from the screen.

All of these issues started after installing software version 17.33. Before this update, the watch operated normally and I did not experience any of the problems listed above.

Could you please investigate these issues and let me know whether they are known bugs or if additional diagnostic information would be helpful?

Kind regards,

Paul

  • This is more of a user forum, although I sometimes see Garmin employees respond. I suggest contacting customer support directly.

You could try a full reset and see if that helps.

  • Jacquers, no disagreement about this being a user forum but I personally find users reporting bugs through the forum incredibly helpful.

    1. For folks like myself who chose to not allow automatic updates it provides a window into finding out if allowing a current update to happen will be helpful or harmful.

    2. For those considering to purchase a Garmin device it provides insight into the support (or lack there of) and the benefits and problems of what they may be buying into.

    3. The reports are more timely than store reviews. A person buys a watch and reviews it on a store WEB site generally based on the conditions in use at a given point in time. But the dynamics are in constant play with software updates and store reviews most frequently do not reflect the latest developments. Since by default Garmin enables automatic updates (unless turned off) where else would a person go to find out what effects a current update has had. Garmin lists what they consider the fixes for any given update but the problems that might exist prior to listing those fixes admitted to by Garmin are few and far between.  99% of the time Garmin lists only what they consider successes, Garmin generally makes no advance warning of problems that need to be fixed and are being worked on.

    4. Support. My take on support (who I generally have positive feelings for) is they may report problems to development, though I've never had a support person actually tell me that they did.

    5. I have to believe comments on this site get noticed Garmin. It is where the Beta program is, the Beta program bug reporting, the announcements regarding firmware update releases and as such, and being a public forum, it must have some sway on Garmin's decisions. How much, or how little is unknown considering Garmin's history of abandoning updates for older watches that still have serious issues because (IMO) they needed to move on to the newest problem children

I can't think of a better place to detail the results of issues that occurred from an automatic update than here, but that's just my opinion.

  •    Thank you for reporting these concerns! It looks like you've been working with our Support team regarding this. Based on your follow-up, it sounds like most of the issues you originally mentioned have since been resolved. I recommend continuing to work with them regarding your anaerobic load metric concerns, as they can review your account details and any information you've provided in greater detail.
