Forerunner 570 screen glitching and going black but staying responsive

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone here has experienced something similar or can offer advice.

I’ve been having an issue with my Forerunner 570 where the screen goes glitches and goes black (even when prompted to wake) only when it enters sleep mode. The strange part is that the device still seems responsive - i.e. when I press buttons, I can feel the haptic feedback, so I know it’s registering inputs, but the display remains totally black.

I've contacted Garmin Support, but they’re asking for video proof that the device is still responsive while the screen is black. That’s where I’m stuck: since the haptics don’t make any noise and the screen shows nothing, I’m not sure how to actually prove that it’s working.

I’ve already sent them a folder with info/logs from the device, but they say they can’t move forward without visual proof of the issue (i.e., of the haptics working during the black screen state).

Has anyone else experienced this issue with the 570 (or similar Garmin devices)?

Also, if anyone has any tips on:

  • How to capture proof that the haptics are working when the screen is off
  • Whether this is a known issue with a workaround or fix
  • Any tricks to force the screen back on without a full reboot

…I’d really appreciate the help.

Thanks in advance!

  • Hi Ricky

sure how do I view your post?

  • Got my 570 in July. This happened once in August and after about 5 minutes the screen came alive. No problems till this last week when it has happened 3 times. I am thinking of resurrecting my 265s because I have 2 big races next weekend and I do not want to be dealing with a black screen at the start line.

  • Got a 570 in July. This happened to me once in August. Screen came alive after about 10 minutes. It has happened three times this week. Watch vibrates. When I try to wake screen up I can’t. Each time screen has come back after a few minutes. Bottom line I do not trust this watch. I have a big races next weekend next week.  I’ll am thinking about resurrecting my old garmin because the last thing I want is a black screen at the start line. Not happy with the 570 right now.

  • I managed to record mine doing this and I have received a replacement. I turned on the buttons sound so I was ready for the next time it did it so I was able to video it
