Battery drains and turning itself off during activity

Ever since recent updates my watch has done nothing but had problems with the battery draining like crazy and turning itself off during activities. I had to reset it the other week due to it turning itself off and was stuck on the triangle. I've had this watch 4 years. It shouldn't be a problem I'm not going to buy another. Got a big race coming up and quite sick of it now. Clearly a problem with the updates. As it was working fine.

  • Same problem here.  The watch has started turning off randomly during activities.  Hugely frustrating.  Technical support were unhelpful.  50 minutes on chat before ending the call without solving anything (literally leaving the chat mid call).  I then got an email offering me 25% off a 300 Euros model which I can't afford.  Not happy.  This should not happen to a 2 year old watch and it is now useless for training

  • Mine did this almost randomly. Some runs (or bike rides) were okay, and it recorded the entire activity. Other times the watch just went dark with no display and was shut off. I forget how old my Forerunner 55 was at the time, but I got a refurbished watch from Garmin.

  • Same problem here. Forerunner 55 keeps switching off during activity, while there is still good battery life. (I had battery draining issues last month, but seems to have now improved after a reset). When it start swtiching off it will just keep switching off very soon if I retry during the same session, but if I wait later or next day looks like holding better (but ends up switching off after a while). I have tried system reset and full drain-charge. Anyone found other solutions?? I have seen somewhere to try switching sound/vibrations off, anyone tried? Bought 3.5 years ago, software version 11.03.

  • My Forerunner 55 wasn't as old as yours and I was able to get a refurbished replacement from Garmin as I said in my earlier post. But to be totally safe I also went and purchased a new one since they had dropped the price to just $169.
