I recently bought a Forerunner 55 as my very first smartwatch and noticed a bug with the backlight. My previous watch was a G-Shock square and just wanted to try a fitness tracker with some running features.
In System Settings, the backlight keys, alerts, and gestures during and not during an activity are set to "After Sunset" and yet if I press the Down button to scroll through the widgets, the backlight turns on for a split-second. If I scroll through the widgets in rapid succession, the backlight stays on until the set timeout of 8 seconds. This bug happens even if all Backlight Settings Not During an Activity Keys Alerts, and Gestures are set to all off.
This is driving me nuts. I have scoured through the entire forums and this bug seems to exist since version 7.x whatever. And this Forerunner 55 is bought from a Garmin Store here in the Philippines last October 2024 with version 9.03. I have also checked the Garmin Connect and Garmin Express and there are no updates from 9.03
I hope someone from Garmin fixes this bug. A small bug like this with multiple people reporting and existing for years doesn't equate well to a software-focused watch company. Who knows what other bugs exist with some higher end watches with Garmin Pay, etcetera (I wouldn't want to put my credit cards details in there LOL)
