Expected battery life

I bought a 2nd hand Forerunner 55 to my son. He used it for a couple of days, with ~ 1 hour of gps activity per day and the Big Easy CIQ watchface (the one I also use on my fr965) and he gets only 2 days of battery life. Is this what's expected? I mean I don't know how long the previous owner used it but given it was released only 3 years ago I would've expected more.

  • My son's refurbished Venue proved that you can swim in a pool 4 times a week for 2 years with no risk. I did not swim with my FR55 yet, however I ran 4 times @100F for 1 hour with a shower after, no problem yet.

  • I guess it also depends who refurbishes it. Maybe when it's Garmin themselves then they can waterproof it.

I think you are right, I will ask support to help me find the service.

  • I own the FR 55 for three years now. It had noticeable degraded battery life after a litte more than two years. It started to suddenly switch off on 5% etc. But on the other hand was back to 100% after just an hour.

Finally I decided to give it a try and ordered a replacement battery. The replacement was possible with some mobile repair skills, glue and soldering. But after the replacement, the battery life is back to normal. Without training one week lifetime is no problem anymore.

The old one already had visible swelling - so it was definitly broken after those three years.
