FR55, Music, Turn-By-Turn Directions

I am trying to decide which Garmin watch to buy. I don't run more than 5-6 miles at a time, but I sometimes like to change my route while running. I use Cloud Player on my Samsung S8+ and Bluetooth earbuds for my running music. Is there a way that would allow me to see a map on the FR55, receive turn-by-turn instructions through my earbuds, receive split times through my earbuds, and be able to control music volume through the FR55?

Is there a way that would allow me to see a map on the FR55 ===> Not supported  (maybe dwMap from ConnectIQStore ?)

-- receive turn-by-turn instructions through my earbuds ===> Not supported natively, or use dwMap from ConnectIQStore

--------- no right or left voice, only beeps, this feature is not available on Garmin Watch even with Epix2/Fenix7 until now

-- receive split times through my earbuds ===> Yes

-- and be able to control music volume through the FR55 ===> Yes

  • Thank you for the replies!  I was thinking of trying to cobble together the experience I wanted into 2 watches.  A Forerunner and a Fitbit.  After posting this, I found a Forerunner 945 on a one-day sale for $150 off.  By the time I cobble two devices together, I think I would spend the same as I would for the FR 945.  I know the FR 945 is about to be replaced, but it has everything I want.  (Maps on the watch, turn-by-turn, music controlled from the watch, and heart rate.  And, it has everything I could ever want: body battery, performance condition, VO2, race time prediction, barometer, Garmin Pay, multiple workout modes and larger face.)    I will always have my cell on me in case of an emergency, I want to be able to make a call, but I don't want to pay for another cell line.)  Besides the fact that a new version is coming out, is there a reason to not keep the FR 945?  How long will Garmin support it now that it is already 3 years old?  I would keep this watch forever if possible as it has exactly what I need at a price I can afford.  I greatly appreciate any thoughts as I am new to the higher level Forerunners.  (I currently have a FR 220.)

  • FR945 is a very good choice, the support will not be stop even if a new model is coming. The maps are updated "for life", and free alternative exists if you are interested you can contact me directly.

With FR945 many features, hardware and software are shared with other x45 or other line of product, so the support is not a problem.

To evaluate and follow it : gpsinformation.net/.../garfeat3.htm

Many friends are running with there F235 since many years, and do not want to change, it works until it break or you need a more battery, a missing feature, etc.

  • Thank you for the reply!  I will keep and tryout the 945.  Greatly appreciate the response!
