Same thing happened to me today but my watch was 80/90% charged, completely turned itself off and after plugging it in it went from 1% to 100% in about 2 minutes, quickly before that I saw the Loading FIT files screen, it did not get stuck at that screen though.
(Native dutch speaking): I had this problem also and resolved it this (dangerous) way after trying all tips and tricks I found for other Garmin watches:
- Hold left upper button (light) 15 seconds to set the forerunner 55 off
- Hold the left upper button a little while to turn it on
- Immediate hold the left lower button (down) a while to bring it in test mode (you will see a QR code)
- click the right upper button a while until you see some metrics on the display
- in this status you can connect the watch to a PC and you can navigate with explorer to the files of the watch
- I made a full copy of the whole GARMIN directory to a backup directory
- Yes I deleted all the activities in de folder activities, but at this point I could also connect the watch with Garmin Express on the PC
- I struggled a while with connecting the watch via bluetooth with my mobile app
But it was only after deleting the activities that I could thru the setting-up proces of my forerunner 55.
I know, it is tricky, but it was the only way that worked for me...
