Suggested workout vs Adaptive Half Marathon Training program

We just upgraded my spouses Garmin to be able to use the HM adaptive training program. A couple of questions.

When I use the Garmin suggested workout, it has a nice feature to track your run. On the top half of the watch face it is a half arc with the range you should be training in. HR or pace. We just started the HM program with the suggested pace, and it doesn't have that arc on top of the watch with the range you should be running in. Is that possible to add?

What exactly is an adaptive program? The first scheduled run had us run for 5 minutes? The next run was at a pace we used when we were beginners. I assumed it would look back at the past year of running with Garmin to know what you are capable of doing. I didn't expect a 5 minute run like we were running for the first time.

I will do some more research. Appreciate any feedback.

  • The adaptive training method has you set a target at the very beginning of the workout. Maybe you can adjust the target to your liking so that it is in line with your current fitness or target.
