Garmin 55 - can I measure distance/time in Open Water swim?

Can I use the GPS 'Running Mode' to measure distance and time when Open Water swimming? Sales person said that this would work, as Garmin 55 does not have an Open Water function. Only for the pool. It's a deal-breaker. Considering buying the Coros Pace 2 (with Open Water function) but prefer the build quality and display of the Garmin 55.

    Indeed, the Forerunner 55 does not have a dedicated open water swimming mode. If you want fairly accurate distance tracking for open water swims, you would have to keep the watch under your swimming cap, so it has unrestricted access to GPS signal.

    Technically it would work to a certain extent, it would be better if you get the Coros Pace 2 if open water swimming is your main forte.
