My Garmin Fitness Device Is Taking A Long Time To Acquire A Satellite Signal

Garmin is aware of an issue where some devices may appear to not acquire a satellite signal.  Affected models include:

  • Edge 530
  • Edge 830
  • Forerunner 45
  • Forerunner 245/245 Music
  • Forerunner 945
  • Fenix 6 Series
  • Garmin Swim 2
  • Legacy Hero/Saga Series
  • MARQ Series
  • Venu
  • vivoactive 4/4S

How do I fix this problem?

The fix requires you to take the following steps:

  1. Wait for the device to acquire a satellite signal which can take up to 5 minutes.
  2. Allow the device to stay locked onto the signal for 20 minutes. Do not exit the activity or take the unit inside during this time frame.
  3. Do not move the device during this time

Following these steps will fix the issue temporarily  Garmin is working to release a software update in the near future  which will automatically download to your device when it is paired to the Garmin Connect app.  This update will permanently fix this issue.
