Battery Drain

Hello. I have a Forerunner 265 and my watch has been working great - Love the watch. I have had it for 2.5 years. Battery would last over a week on a charge... this includes some GPS activities and other things such as Weightlifting. I don't know if it happened right after updating to firmware 27.09 as I can't remember when that happened but I would say in the last week or 2 the drain has been crazy fast.... Just yesterday it went from 50% in the morning down to 25% in the afternoon and then all of a sudden dropped to 1% and asked to be put into powersave mode. I contacted Garmin and they said they don't know of any other instances of this happening with the 265 and said they offer the exchange as I am 1.5 years past warranty. Anyone else out there in the same boat as me?

  • So far I am fortune.  I have not run in to any battery drain issues.  Try powering down the watch and then powering it back up again.  Failing that, taking Garmin up on a new watch might be a possible solution.  Others though might reply here with similar issues.  Wish I had more news for you.

  • Thanks for the reply. I turned off a couple of remote sensors that hadn't given me troubles leaving on before but maybe something happened when my watch updated to the new FW... I also did a hard reboot.... so far my battery drain has slowed down substantially. Fingers Crossed!

  • I have the same problem after the 27.09 update, and a full charge only lasts for 2-3 days. Rebooting and other solutions didn't help. Now my watch is a headache instead of a smart device.

  • Hi. I don't know exactly what has fixed mine but I did the hard reboot (hold top left button for 30 seconds) and I disabled my remote sensors... I also deleted watch faces that I wasn't using. Yesterday around noon my watch was at 82% and this morning at 7:35 am it is 80%. Someone told me in another thread that sometimes when watches get updated they can trigger other apps/sensors etc... not for everyone but occasionally it can happen... perhaps this is what happened to me and maybe same for you. try to go through all your settings and turn off things you don't need and do the hard reboot. I hope you can find a solution... I hope mine is a permanent one as I felt quite distraught yesterday.

  • One thing I did not mention is that I do not have my watch connected to BT all the time.  I only turn on BT on the watch in the morning and then at night before I go to bed.  I also do not wear my watch at night either.  All of this might have some impact on battery life too.

  • Thanks for the tip. I will try doing that if I run in to problems again. I don't want to change anything at the moment as my battery seems to be back to normal.  Thanks again for your help.
