FR265 - HR data inaccurate (fw v.22.12)

Lately, on my Forerunner 265, I've been getting strange/inaccurate HR readings. I was running for over an hour, changing speed every 900m. After the training, it showed that I spent 75% of the time doing a warmup, which is not true.
What can I do? Does this qualify for a warranty repair?

  • I'd call / chat / email support for assistance. I generally start with the chat option.

Did it just start with the beta? Then best report a bug there as support wont help with beta software issues

  • Hi! Just had the same issue. HR totally off during most of my training… running 21.22

    Any luck with support?

  • Nope, Garmin pissess me off...

  • Chiming in on this thread. I have been seeing this issue since I bought my watch in May 2024. There was another long thread regarding this issue. They closed that thread recently. I got an email that with the new software version this should be resolved. But it is still not resolved. I am having the same issues on the latest software.

  • Hello

The heart rate track is wrong. Before asking for any warranty replacement, I suggest you wear the watch two finger widths away from the wrist bone and that the device is clean and relatively snugly worn. Sometimes, heart rate sensors can incorrectly lock onto your running cadence and can also be impacted by cold weather.

  • My opinion, until Garmin sorts out what's up with the Gen 4 sensor, a warranty replacement likely won't help and if I'm wrong, I'd like a warranty replacement too. I love the interface / display on the 265 vs the 245 but I'm more happy with the HR on the FR245 with the caveat that I stopped software updates on FR245 at a point that I was reasonably happy with it. With the 265 (again my opinion) they are trying to solve a finicky in the field (probably technically superior in the lab) HR sensor with software and it's not working out that well. I just received an HR200 chest strap (haven't tried it yet) and it looks like I need to upgrade to the latest software to use it (even thought I'm only .02 off) as the HR200 is specifically mentioned in the latest release, which makes me wonder if I do, what breaks next. The last update done at supports urging temporarily broke the HR sensor, I had to go through the magic menu (settings, about, then push the light button 8 times and select reinstall) to get the sensor to work again but at least it did work again after the reinstall, well I mean as much as it actually does work :\

  • Oh, and I don't really want to use a chest strap, I just want the FR265 optical HR Gen 4 to work as well as it did on the FR245 Gen 3, (not medical grade), just reasonably well.
