Pool swim lap count incorrect with Forerunner 265 v21.19

For my first 2 swim activities, I found that the distance counted is often incorrect. Before switching to Garmin Forerunner 265 last week, I was using Apple Watch Ultra 2 and did not have this issue.

I swim in a 25 yard pool and do two lengths before taking a rest. I do not do a flip turn at the end of the first length. I would assume that this kind of pool swim would be easy to count. For 5 of my 30 length 2 laps, I found that the watch recorded the distance as 25m and for one it recorded as 75m. What could be going on here?

  • My observations from my swims (955 / 965):

You need to be very definitive about push-off after each lap.

Sometimes if you pfaff in the middle of the lap, bump something (like the pool rope) it can be detected as a turns hence extra laps. Also if you move hands too much doing a rest .

Stroke recognition can also be less exact , I found I had to focus on my stroke style (esp backstroke), now It recognises it most of the time.

Generally I can be within 1 lap on 50 laps now with majority of strokes well picked up.

I have this site I use sometimes if I want to fix something if it is really messy.
