garmin 265 wireless stopped working after 21.19

Garmin 265 wireless stopped working after 21.19. The phone cannot connect via Bluetooth and a message appears saying "need wireless 21.19"
How can I downgrade to the previous version? I am unable to use the watch.

  • Thank you for sharing and I'm sorry to read this! If you have access to a computer, can you please download Garmin Express (How Do I Install Garmin Express Software?), plug in your watch and add the device? Check for updates, sync, safely eject and install anything that may pop up. If you (or anyone else) still see that error message please let me know if I may have permission to reach out via email.

  • Does this fix the issue? I now have the same thing coming up on my forerunner 265

  • Obviously this is a big issue and based on a lot of posts (for other problems I've read) and for that matter Garmin-Sierra's reply I suspect incomplete updates play into some of the problems. It appears that one way to check is to go into settings, system, about and look at the release versions of the various functions/sensors to make sure none are reporting 0.0.0  GPS, Wi-Fi, CIQ  ect.

If any are at 0's then (again based on posts) it may indicate an incomplete software update

It would be great to know if the issue has been resolved.

  • We've seen that it has fixed it for most users who experienced this! If you're still seeing 0.0.0 for any versions within your About page, please let me know if I may have permission to reach out via email. You can also contact Product Support for the quickest assistance if you prefer (if calling or chatting is available).

  • One thing that hasn't been discussed is that the after being downloaded the file that is used for the update is named GUPDATE.GCD and is located in the Garmin directory on the watch. Hook the watch up to a PC, browse to \Forerunner 265\internal storage\Garmin.

Keeping in mind that I'm no expert on this, this is what I'd be thinking about doing, If your watch isn't updating the software properly (versions showing 0.0.0), I'd check and see if the GUPDATE.GCD file is still there in the Garmin folder. If it is still there then I'd probably move if from the Garmin folder over to my PC which deletes it from the watch but saves it for later comparisons.

Then I'd use Garmin Express utility and check for updates. With no GUPDATE.GCD file, it should download the current update which would then be a fresh copy to install from, as downloaded by Garmin Express on the PC, not over the air by the watch.

In fact (though I haven't tested this with the 265 yet), after I was done using Express to download an update, I make sure to stop Garmin Express from starting up automatically on the PC (when the PC is restarted) because if I forget, say because I had updated one of my other Garmins, then when I hook my FR245 back up to the PC to transfer an activity file, Express would download an update for the 245 in the background and when I disconnected the FR245, I'd be asked if I wanted to install the update now, or later?

What the heck?! I have auto updates turned off! And that's why I learned the location of the GPUDATE.GCD file, because if you say later and then use the USB cable connection to browse to and delete (or move) the GPUDATE.GCD file, later never happens. The file needed for the update isn't there. At the point you decide it's safe to update, start up Garmin Express again, hook up the watch and it will happen.
