Auto Lap by position no longer available?

I just purchased a Garmin Forerunner 265 to replace a 12-year old 910XT. I was astounded to learn after contacting Garmin that the Forerunner 265 does not have auto lap by position (The 910XT did as do all three of my Garmin cycle computers). The chat tech said Garmin no longer offers auto lap by position on any unit. This seems crazy to me as I routinely do workouts on a 2.5 km circuit and use the auto lap to record lap times. Was the information from that chat tech correct? Did Garmin really do away with the auto lap by position feature?

It was removed with the codebase rewrite for both the FR620 and the FR920 in 2013. Now returned after 11 years in the Beta Firmware 21.14 a month ago for the FR955 and FR965. I do not know the state of the FR2x5-series.

Thanks for the reply. Based on what you said, will it be possible to add this feature back to the F265 with a software update some time in the future, given how upset people seem to be about it being removed?

(Some) People were very upset back in 2013 and 2014 and over the years others have questioned the removal, but Garmin never commented. The Outdoors team added the option to the Fenix watch line at some time _after_ 2017 when I bought the 5X - which did not have it then and never got it through FirmWare updates.

The inclusion of the option in the FR9x5 Beta FW 21.14 was not documented in the changelog. Beta testers posted about it in that forum, eg:

Only Garmin can tell you (or silently act) about the FR2x5 FirmWare future...
