Forerunner 265s IQ watch faces shifting when in AOD mode

Hi, I have a garmin forerunner 265s, running on the latest available (non beta) software. On a bunch of watch faces from IQ it seems AOD is shifting and a bit flickery. The default watch faces seem to work fine.
In this video I'm showing what happens when I use the Protomolecule watch face. The shiffting occurs after a while (within a minute) when re-entering AOD mode.

Is this an issue with my specific device, a Garmin issue or something for the watch face developers to fix?

  • Are you saying the behavior changed? Or it's just the way this watchface always works on this watch?

I think this style of shifting around used to be considered the best practice to avoid burn-in. So the watchface developer may have designed it that way?

Over time, Garmin has changed the rules for how a CIQ watchface has to behave in AOD mode. If a face didn't meet the goals, the watch would disable the AOD mode after a while. So an older watchface app might be more conservative than newly designed ones, since it was targeting the older rules enforced by prior watches and firmware versions.

  • Thanks for your insight. I'm not sure if it changed, I got the watch only about 2 months ago, and all I can say is I didn't notice it before. It just seems quite glitchy, especially with the flickering. But your explaination makes sense, good to know that context. I might just reach out to the watch face creator to confirm if it's intentional.
