Maximizing Fitness Age Potential

I recently started using a Forerunner 265 to track my progress after resuming running post a three-year break. Initially, my VO2 max improved, and my "fitness age" decreased from 54 to 53, despite my chronological age being 61 and try online age calculator.

However, I noticed that the watch now indicates I’ve hit my “achievable fitness age.” This makes me wonder if this “fitness age” metric is merely a marketing gimmick or if it genuinely reflects fitness progress.

Here are my questions:

Can the fitness age drop below the “achievable” mark if VO2 max continues to improve, weight decreases, and running speed increases? (I’m doubtful this is possible.)

Do users adjust their reported age to keep the fitness age calculation dynamic and reflective of their progress?

  • With the recent batch of watches the max achievable  is age -9.5 years ( as an example on earlier devices ,  in the late 50's I was in the late 20's :-))

Never adjusted my actual age from reality.

  • As already mentioned, if you exercise actively, you'll quickly fit the limit of fitness age. Since your VO2max can also go up only so far, you could try following your lactate threshold, endurance score and hill score instead.
