Confidence

I have been following a programme for 16 of 22 weeks to achieve a 10K in 53m. Last week on my latest run I did this in 51:35. This is over 2 minutes faster than previous runs so training is helping.  Great but the confidence score continues to decrease on the training programme. Does the training programme not take into account actual performance on the same device and then adapt the training schedule?

  • I didn't find any information about how the Garmin Coach Plans evaluate the level of performance. Based on my experience, it is important to execute the workouts as planned, without under or over doing them. I suspect the level of confidence is also depending on your VO2 Max trends, but I am not sure.

In the end, your own level of confidence is more important than the watch. However, be careful not to over train. It would be too bad to end up being injured (as it happened to me several times in my career) just a few days before a race.

  • Good points you raise. VO2 is in the top 5% for my age so improving but I will take care not to overtrain as you mention. Another discrepancy I have found is when the coach has a training day scheduled despite also noting the day as a race day. Hopefully these issues will improve as the software becomes more interactive. Thanks for your response.

Is the coach training plan targeting that race day in the plan set up, or is it a secondary event that you put in your calendar?

I recently completed a 10k. I had put the 10k both in my calendar and in the training plan. The day of the race, it looks like the watch executed the race properly, but the race event from the training plan was still in the schedule. Only after I deleted the event from the calendar I was able to see the DSW again.

  • Yes these were secondary races. I reached my target time before the target race.
