Dirt in HR sensor

I have been getting rashes on my wrist from my watch (Forerunner 265) for the last 4 months.

Before that I wore the watch continuously for 7 months, and then the red rash and sores started appearing.

Before this watch I had both the Forerunner 220 and Forerunner 235. For the Forerunner 235 I wore daily and nightly for around 6 years and never had an issue.

I have tried various things, such as changing strap, making sure I am not wearing too tight, cleaning as well as I can, moisturising well etc, waiting for the rash to completely heal before returning to the watch. Every time I start wearing again the rashes will reappear within 1 -  2 days.

Wearing the 235 again for a week shows that I have no rash with that one.

Comparing the too watches, I can see that the HR sensor is not flush on the newer 265, and it is on the older 235 it is smooth with no gaps.

In the gap on the new 265 I keep seeing a built up of white dirt, I assume this is from sweat and dead skin, and likely the cause of my rash.

I clean it as best I can, but it will accumulate again within a day

Does anyone else have issue with this, or advice on how to prevent it?
