Spotify installation driving me mad!

I have a new 265. One of the main reasons I bought it was the spotify link. I've spent 2 hours trying to set this up.

An hour and a half was trying to get the app onto the watch (download garmin express; software update via that; wait an age for the watch to update; update garmin connect; update garminIQ). I have succeeded in doing this and have the app on my watch but it now asks me to log into my connect app to sign in to Spotify. When I open the connect app there is no sign in message for spotify.

There are various help articles and I have followed them. The last one suggested I switch off the watch and force close the connect app; then switch the watch on and go to the spotify app to try to restart it. I did this and it asked me to open the connect app and sign in when the banner pops up. No banner arrived.

Help anyone. I am seriously regretting buying this watch!

  • My wife had this same issue. IIRC I fixed it by  forcing the Garmin Connect app to close, clearing the cache on the Garmin Connect app, restarting the watch, opening GC, select device>music>music providers and then it worked.

Not sure this was it, we tried several things in a row and eventually it worked. A very frustrating experience for my wife.

On my own Garmin it worked flawlessly though.

I am now very happy with the integrated Spotify app; no need to bring a phone during running anymore.

  • Hi

    thanks for that.
I tried to delete the cache but couldn’t find any option to do it. I have an iPhone so looked in settings/general/iPhone storage and then chose Garmin Connect but the only options were to delete the app or hand it off to the cloud.

i then navigated to settings and then the app but that didn’t give me any option to empty the cache.

can you explain how you did the cache empty?

    thanks.

  • Hi again

How very strange. I did nothing but a few minutes ago I tried again to open spotify on my watch and this time I got the log in request on my phone!!! I have changed nothing and done nothing different but at least now I am a step further on!

  • My wife has her Garmin connected to her Android phone, so unfortunately I can't comment on how to do that on the iPhone.

  • That is great news! Hope you get it working now. It took me a bit of time to figure out how to best make playlists for music and for podcasts and sync them to watch, but once O had set it up it worked like a charm.

  • That's my next challenge. I listen to podcasts but I don't want all of them stuck on there I am just after the new ones, so I need to work out how to be selective and how to remove the ones I've listened to. I'm sure there will be videos on youtube
