Issue using FR265 with Verity Sense Heart Rate Monitor

Using FR265 with Verity Sense and Apple Watch Ultra. Connect both to the VS at the same time (works as VS has 2 Bluetooth channels).

Works perfectly when using “Treadmill” and “Strength” Profiles. Heart Rate on both AW and FR265 match perfectly. Maybe 1 second delay between the two when my HR changes. Even when HR changes fairly rapidly. The two match perfectly even for some long treadmill runs of over an hour.

Does not work smoothly when using the “Run” Profile. It seems to match at first for maybe 10-20 seconds, then the FR265 starts to drift by 2-5 beats for while, then it shows “—“ for a while, then it jumps back to match the AW. It then follows this cycle for the rest of my run.

FR265 firmware version : 18:22.

It is almost as if the watch is alternating between showing the heart rate from the VS, the internal heart rate sensor and no heart rate at all.

I also had a similar problem with the FR165 but much worse. The “drift” was by about 35 beats. Again, worked perfectly on “treadmill” and “Strength” Profiles, I gave up and returned the unit to the store yesterday. I bought the FR265 instead hoping that a model that has been on the market for longer would be more reliable.

  • I just spoke with support. They said that it could be that the VS is on a different arm to the FR265. I explained that did not make sense as it works great in “Treadmill” and “Strength” profiles. He explained that it probably works fine in a gym because the signal “bounces” off the walls from one arm to the other. But does not work outside as the signal is not strong enough to travel from one arm to the other and does not have any “walls” for the signal to “bounce off. Seems very unlikely to me…

  • Update : I noticed that the VS was due a firmware update. Also, I was connecting to the VS on the Garmin via ANT+ and not Bluetooth. I disabled ANT+ on the VS and re-paired via Bluetooth. I will test over the next few days and report my findings.

  • Just to report that the problem is now resolved. Bluetooth connection to both AW and FR265. ANT+ switched off. AW and FR265 now show the same heart rate. No drops. Works for outdoor runs as well as indoor activity. Even with VS on a different arm to the FR265. I am glad that I ended up with the more expensive FR265 (rather than the FR165) as I do like the extra health features.
