Backlight always on FR265

Hello,

My FR 265 with amoled screen is unreadable with only always on display when there is a harsh sun unless I turn my wrist while running or click on the light.

I look at some orher people complaining about it in the garmin forum without answers, is there really no way with tweak or hack to at least have the choice to put the backlight always on on a 500$ watch even if this reduce the battery a lot?

  • There is no backlight on an OLED screen. You can turn off auto-brightness and set it to high. That will make it easier to see in bright sunlight.

The always-on screen is a lower power state, and there's a high power state when the screen is "on."

  • Thanks for the answer,

I can’t find how do deactivate the auto brightness on my FR265.

Also my key point was to know if there was a way to set the AOD mode in activities to what you called the « high power state » using apps in garmin iq line this one https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/d54b8e33-9ea8-4bf1-ba6f-e3d836ce710c

but it doesn’t seems to work on my watch

  • Sadly stuck the light button on doesn’t work because the wheel appears so that I can’t see data, maybe there is a way to rebind it?

  • Not sure there is an auto brightness on the FR 265, I was thinking of the Venu 3. What you can try is go to Settings (long press center left button), scroll down to and select the gear, System, Display, During Activity, Brightness. If it's not all the way up, you can change it there. Garmin doesn't allow (to my knowledge) the screen to stay in high power. It will always dim after some time (depending on your settings) on an OLED screen.

Regarding the app you linked to, I assume it's meant for MIP screens that need a backlight. The developer made it compatible with OLED screen devices, but I don't know how it would work, or what it's supposed to do on an OLED device. Better to ask him.

  • The Light button on the FR265 switches between low and high power modes. Holding it down brings up the Controls menu, as you found out.
