Shut off automatically and won't turn back on

My forerunner 265, that I just got 2 days ago, shut off automatically and won't turn back on. It was fully charged, after being on the charger all night night. I'm not sure what to do. I press all of the buttons and even hold each down, but nothing happens. I haven't even run with it yet.

  • I'm very sorry to hear about that! If you happen to have a computer, does it turn on if you plug it in while holding down the LIGHT button for around 30 seconds?

If you give me permission, I'd be happy to contact you via email to gather a few details.

Feel free to also reach out to Garmin Product Support directly for the quickest and most efficient assistance.

  • It came back on when I put it back on the wall charger. The charge was already full, but apparently had to be plugged back in. I'm not sure why this happened or how to prevent it from happening again. I read other posts and it looks like this is not uncommon. So, do I wait to see if it happens again,  or do I replace it?

  • We have fixes coming soon for a couple of different bugs on the device, one including the device powering on to a blank screen unless it is plugged in or the emergency assistance screen is initiated and then cancelled. I am not sure if that is what happened in your situation, but I would suggest waiting for the upcoming updates regardless since it seems software related. We will have a beta available for the FR 265 soon, and a live release a little later.

  • OK, good to know! Thank you.

  • Do you know when this update will happen? Be a this is happening daily. I can always get my phone back on the chargerer in order for my screen to wake up.

  • I do not know the exact date unfortunately. Can you please follow these workaround steps in the meantime?

    1. Enable location permission for the Garmin Connect app running on the paired phone/tablet.
    2. Open a GPS enabled activity profile on the watch.
    3. Wait for notification of a successful GPS connection.
    4. Back out of the activity profile and re-test.
    5. Over the next 24-hours, there should not be any freeze or crash on the watch.

  • All,

We have released a fix for this disruption in the 18.15 beta software release. If you do not wish to enroll in beta, feel free to wait until the live software version is released. I do not have a timeline for that release date at the moment.

If you are still experiencing freezing after 18.15, please start a new thread on the main FR 265 channel.

Thank you very much for your patience as we investigated.
