The Run Coach does not consider training readiness or other activities / races done outside of the training plan.

I am training for a half marathon and I find this a bit inflexible. I think I am better of with the training suggestions for primary/supporting events and set a target pace for those events. Curious how others find the coach plans and if you miss out on training for supporting events.

Yes. you are. Garmin Coach plans are indeed not super flexible. Also, when you prepare for another race after your goal, these plans start from scratch.

However, the daily suggestions as part of a race plan do take into account your recent training history.

That said, make sure you don't put too many "supporting" events for a major race. This could result in sub-optimal periodization.

My guestimate is that you should not have more than 1 intermediate event per month. If I had more, I would simply apply these second priority events to a daily suggestion that best match the type of race. For example, long run applied to HM or marathon (a bit of a stretch on the latter), or 5k/10k applied to a threshold or anaerobic workout. This makes me juggle with sheduling, but it does preserve the periodization for the main race.
