Question for owners

Hi

I need some help to decide, my usage pattern is probably not so unique:Blush

I need a watch primarily for gym working with various machines (not free weights), sit ups, elliptical maybe treadmill.

I also run occasionally outdoors but that's the easy part.

I want the watch to track reps precisely and automatically without manually pressing constantly start/stop

So I thought 265 with HRM-Pro will do the job, I have today Vivoactive 3, it does not detect anything automatically unless I manually initiate some activity and then it tracks maybe half:(

I struggle to understand the difference between the watches in this aspect. I don't need golf, maps, and 30 days navigation in the mountains..

What I do like however is the daily health report, and for that I would sleep with the watch

Ahh, I have proper mechanical (automatic) watch, and I have no intention to wear Garmin 24/7. I thought only for sports activity and sleep. Wearing Rolex on one hand and Garmin in another I think I would look weird Slight smile

What do you think?

Michael

  • go with a cheaper Garmin, Instinct 2 will do the job and costs much less.

  • Thanks, can you elaborate plz? Why?

I wonder if it "will do the job", as I suspect I will end with the same result as my Vivoactive 3

Are there better accelerometer sensors so they can "understand" movements in the gym?

Cost is of less issue for me, as long as I am sure the watch performing proper tracking and not a toy..

  • Instinct is very big, 16mm..

  • No Garmin will track reps precisely, but vivoactive 4, this model 265 and newer models include autorep option that can be enabled to track your weight training without pressing the lap button, if you want something good and affordable try 255 music or vivoactive 4, 265 is also good

  • Thanks, I will soon find out, I pulled the trigger and bought FR 265 + HRM Pro Plus..

  • Got the watch.

First thing I noticed there is no activity auto start. Funny, my vivoactive 3 had it and it worked like a charm. There is Move IQ but I need like a monkey to play with the watch all the time start/stop, start/stop, ..

Also Pulse Ox seems like want me dead, as it refuses to measure as I move too much. Eventually succeeded, but not good.. should be better

Didn't like the faces, so installed Summit 2.. which also less buggy than Garmin's own analog face.

So mixed feelings so far, but haven't been to the gym yet. Really hope it will track better than vivoactive 3
