Heart rate broadcast not working with Edge 520+

My Edge 520+ is unable to pick up the heart rate broadcast from my FR265. It will pick up the FR265 as a sensor after a long try but cannot stay connected. I know my Edge 520+ is fine because it works perfectly fine with my Venu SQ.

I have seek help from my local Garmin support and they have tried all different combinations (new units, different models) and seems like Edge 520+ just won't work with FR265.

Exhausted all means, I email Garmin support but their suggested solution is for me to use a heart rate strap instead.

Anyone here experienced the same issue and is able to resolve it?

Thanks.

  • I purchased a FR265 yesterday.  I enabled HR broadcast to my Edge 520 (non plus).   While it paired correctly (and quickly), the connection for the HR data was really, really flaky on my ride this morning.    When looking at the sensor info on my 520, it will also randomly disconnect even when both are within a foot of each other while sitting on my desk.

In short, I don't have a solution for you, but I do have the same problem.

I previously enabled HR broadcast from a FR235 to my Edge 520.  This worked fine, so this seems like a FR265 issue.

Also, the FR265 reports itself as a 255....;o(

  • Just FYI, ehen I was at the local support center, we tried the following combinations.

    New FR265 with my Edge520+ - doesn't work

    New Edge520+with my FR265 - doesn't work

    New Edge520+ with new FR265 - doesn't work

The broadcast only works when we used an Edge 830.

I will continue to write to Garmin and hope there is a solution to this.

  • I had previously noticed that the BT connection between my E520 and my phone started dropping while using the HR Broadcast from my FR265->E520.   This morning, I tried disabling the BT on my phone during my ride.   With BT on my phone disabled, the FR265->E520  HR broadcast was MUCH MORE RELIABLE.  The HR data is still 100% received, but it was noticeably better than before.   On my next ride, I'm going to try disabling wifi on the FR265 to see if that helps the HR broadcast.

  • Garmin support has stopped replying to my emails after giving the solution of using heartrate strap instead of the broadcast.

Very disappointing  but I guess that's how they make money by forcing me to buy a new cycling computer in order to use that feature.
