Incorrect elevation FR 265s

For about 3 weeks my Forerunner 265s keeps detecting the wrong elevation. I already recalibrated the sensor several times and rebooted the watch but its reading is still too high. Is there anything else I can do to resolve this issue?

  • AFAIK, elevation is based on the difference between your watches current pressure (decreases with elevation) and the pressure that would exist at sea level at your location.  Google QNH to understand the theory.

Does your barometer read correctly vs a weather app?

I've read that Garmin takes weather from the closest weather station which is often an airport. How far away is your weather station?

How much elevation error are you experiencing?

  • Thanks for your answer, I‘ve checked before starting a new activity and the barometer does not differ much from the number in my weather app.

I also have a weather station within 5 km of where I live.

As for the elevation error: the first picture shows the detected elevation with a total elevation of around 9000m and the second picture shows the actual elevation. The weather didn‘t change during the hike and my old FR 935 didn‘t have a problem detecting the correct elevation.

  • Can you point out the 9000 value on the graph?

Regardless, those spikes are insane.  I'd suggest warranty.
