VO2 Max Not Updating

I know this has been an issue on former models of Garmin Watches. I have worn my 265 almost every day for two months. I competed in two triathlons, and have drastically improved my running abilities over the past sixty days. However, my VO2 max hasn't changed one time. It imported the VO2 max from my heart strap monitor I used before purchasing the watch and hasn't fluctuated.

Any suggestions?

  • A suggestion , use Runalyze as there you can see the .fit file info to two decimals for VO2 max from the Garmin data , which at least lets you see what is happening. FYI it seems to change up a full% on the Garmin watch/app at about x.30 not x.50 . You also see a runalyze VO2 calculation (obviously different but still useful)

    Also VO2 moves very slowly now since some changes a while ago (maybe 6 months?) in the Garmin algorithm for VO2.

  • Thanks, Runalyze is showing changes all throughout the past two months that don't show up on my watch or the Garmin Connect app.

  • Just to be sure, are you looking at the VO2 "from fit file" version (you select to display that on the little settings wheel) as that should correlate to what is in the watch/GC (taking account the rounding issue I mentioned) - or it does in my case anyway.

  • Presumably, the actually working VO2 max calculation will be introduced in the new Forerunner 269/969 series.

    Sadly, that is scheduled for 2027 (265 -> 269).

  • Are you taking about Runalyze's own VO2max estimate or the Garmin estimate read from the fit file, called "VO2max (by file)" in Runalyze?
