How to switch off the random number generator in wrist HRM?

Wrist HRM seems to be completely unreliable.

Sometimes (well, most of the time), there is a sudden drop in HR and it stays for a while. It seems there is no correlation between how tight the snug is. It could be very tight, loose, normal, it does not matter - it just happens.

Is it just my watch?

  •  any comment on this?

Reading other forums it seems it affects all new releases and even the Fenix 7 has that recently.

And it does not seem to be a HW issue, as it is the issue with chest HRM as well.

I mean, the chest data and how the watch reads the chest data is differ. The watch tries to fix the missing data points (because of lost contact with the body) with some weird algorithm, that just causes these mysterious drops then after a while it comes back to normal.

Garmin HR reads are completely unreliable now. It is just a pure luck now if you have a session without drops, but in my case, it affects approx 30% of activities, at least.

  • - I don't use music in watch
    - yes, connected to phone, and the phone is nearby
    - garmin connect
    - SW: 3.58, WHR: 11.00.05, ANT: 24.84. Sensor Hub: 23.11

Usually, I use Garmin HRM-Pro with Fenix 7 - this setup works reasonably well. However, when going out for a walk, or hiking, chest strap is not reasonably to use.

The Fenix does have a legendary bad HR sensor, so I thought it would be fine to have an updated one, praised by reviewers.

And yes, I can have some sessions with good HR track record, so I'd be able to say and show, see, it is perfect :)

The problem is, that there are many other, when it is useless - and now I must have a guesswork after every session to check, whether the HR data makes sense at all?

  • yes, it is 23.11

I know some sport apps use different scan frequency(led flashing) for the wrist hr during the workout

thanks, it is good to know. I've seen this HR drops in "Walk" and "Cardio" but will try the others.
