New PIN keypad is awful

Hi,

Is it possible to change PIN keypad layout to the good old ring-based layout?

The new one with numeric keypad is not best for devices without touch screen. Even after few weeks I still don't know which button should I press to move digit selector in proper direction.

The ring based layout was easy to use and very intuitive, please at least give us option to choose prefferd way of entering PIN code.

  • I always enter the PIN code when I know I am going to pay for something, minutes before people are waiting for me.

  • Yes, the new experience is a downgrade in every way. It looks worse, is incosistent with the design, slower and error prone. Please revert it. The old one was great.

  • I did not have seen it... I agree, a step backwards on any watch without touchpad like the 255. I think that I will stop upgrading firmware on this watch anymore, because it may downgrade some things that were good.

       Best,
       Kurt.-

  • Agreed. This just doesn't work well on the none touchscreen 255. There should be a setting to select either/or if the same software is used for both touchscreen models and none touchscreen models.

  • New format is absolute crap. Old ring format took me 3 sec. to activate. New format means I have to bring wrist in front of face which then makes it cumbersome to activate the up and down buttons. With the ring mode I didn't even have to look at watch. Turn it back or at least give us a choice

  • I didn't realise at first that this occured in an update. I thought I had changed it somehow so spent days trying to figure what I had done so I could change it back. Not happy Jan!

  • Yeah clearly this is a mistake and FR255 should get the old radial / wheel / ring PIN entry method back. I also think touchscreen devices like FR955 should get the old radial PIN entry back as an option.

The keypad is clearly optimized for touch, while the radial keyboard works better with buttons.

  • The old round layout was definitely better. I have a 165 and even with a touch screen the new layout is less user friendly. With the numbers being closer together I make more input mistakes, which happened less often with the old layout.

Garmin, please bring back the old layout or make it an option of which one to use.

  • Garmin, please bring back the old layout ...

I would bet serious money that this will not change. Just like I'm betting that a MIP display watch will never be seen again within the Forerunner family.
And, we'll be lucky if they just disappear from there ...

  • I'm hoping that they'll take our feedback into consideration, there are enough people who don't like the new layout. It may look better (although that's also subjective), but in practice the functionality is worse.

As for MIP, maybe if they'll release a solar model. I think eventually we'll have MicroLED, but that's probably still a while away.
