Battery Life - Real World Experience

Pleasantly surprised. Though a single example so far, I used 13% battery for a 1:10 hour run (@11% per hour), with backlight (60%) and music on continually, with GPS settings All Systems + Multi Band, and 1-second recording. No Pulse Ox. So, if linear energy drain (an assumption only), then about 9 hours of use in this max energy configuration as compared to the Garmin specifications showing 6.5 hours.

I did experience an overnight drain recently, and have been trying to nail down the cause. Maybe an update? I have not been able to replicate that battery drain. I did reset the watch after that issue.

But my activity (running) usage seems to be very impressive.

  • Thanks. I didn't see the setting, since WiFi was currently off. After setting it on, more settings appeared. I prefer to sync manually.

  • If i understand it right, autosync synct my spotify playlist only if i plug my watch to the charger. 2-3 minutes after plug it in i see a WiFi search (i have setup work and home network ) and syncing the playlist - hence no battery load at all.

Normally i have juice for 5-7 days, 2-4 h bike and 2 h outdoor running with music. No Ox, gesture light on 10% for 8 sec after sunset.

  • Normally i have juice for 5-7 days, 2-4 h bike and 2 h outdoor running with music.

is that 2 hours only with music, or the full 4-6 hours?

I get 5-6 days, running 4 or 5 days for about 30 mins a time with music and GPS set to Auto (so 2 hours total activity)

  • Have only running with music, bike with music is too dangerous for me. No surprises, but OK.

  • My experience is that music is the top contributor to battery consumption. GPS and music at the same time drains the battery fast.

  • I turned on airplane mode during 8 hours of sleep last night and lost one percent point of battery.

    Recommended!

  • Yes, it works fine for me.

Turning off auto upload will save battery as it will not search for WiFi when you are not in range. Basically with auto uploads off, WiFi will never come until you manually do a sync from quick settings.

  • Auto upload must do more than activities, as my batter life became rubbish even if I'd not done any activities.

  • To have the power saver automaticly during sleep time is only in fenix, yes.

955 has a bit more functionallity, so it lasts maybe 1-2 days more in my scenario. I do outdoor every day for more than 1 hour and have watch always on wrist plus sleep tracking.

Now my 255 lasts from 90 to 20% approximaly 8-9 days.

So I can get 11 days for sure with lots of usage but with a simple display hack.

  • Wow, the truth is that your statistics are incredible!

I usually do 2-3 hours of running a week, so I might as well do 20 days, which would be perfect for me.

Unfortunately, I use GPS with music, and that really drains the battery :-(

In fact, I'm considering either the 255 Music, or the 955 Solar (sale) because the GPS mode with music offers more battery life...

But I'm still hesitating, and the battery drains comments in the forums don't help :-(
