I selected the Jeff Galloway plan for a 10k as a way to diversify my training and safely build up endurance and speed after an injury. I set my long run as Saturdays and immediately started running into a problem - it scheduled speed repeats on Saturday then a long run on a Monday.
Then I ran into issues where I skipped a Jeff workout but did another run and the plan acted as if I hadn't run at all.
i got to the part where it gave me 11 miles "long easy run" on week 8 and I started to question it even more. Sure, I did the long run with lots of walk breaks but still - 11 miles for a 10k training??
then we got to week 9 and my workout tomorrow is 12x800 repeats at faster than goal pace. TWELVE. 800s!! On a weekday! I decided to download Jeff Galloways app and input the same information and see the plan it generated. The result: 12x400s for this week and a 6 mile long easy run on Saturday. A few more longer Saturday runs in the plans, sprinkled with some 5K tests. Nothing like 11 miles on a Monday! Or 12-18 800s as I've seen mentioned and anticipate.
Garmin keeps resisting and saying this is accurate. It is not. No way to adjust the plan or even replace the workout with a real one without Coach Jeff warning you about skipping workouts.
I don't know what to do to be able to use the plan as guidance when it's so wrong.
suggestions:
-CHANGE THE PLAN TO FIT JEFFS REAL PLAN
- edit the description for all long easy runs to instruct people to use run-walk-run method.
-include a magic mile calculator
-implement run walk run intervals for any long runs
