245 auto sync failure

My Forerunner 245 does not automatically sync with Garmin Connect after I save an activity, even though my phone bluetooth is on. When I open the app and press the sync icon in the upper right, it syncs (so I know it is connected). How do I get it to sync automatically as described in the owner's manual "Bluetooth connected features"?

  • It can take a few minutes to sync an activity, and I think Connect has to be open for it to happen. Is it possible that you're just impatient?
You've obviously paired the phone and watch correctly, as you can trigger a sync, as you described..Try opening the app and then just getting on with your stretching or post-workout snack and see if the update happens. I believe what happens is that if the phone is in reach and Connect is on, it syncs and gives a success message on the watch, otherwise it gives a red failed message and tries again later.

Does your watch try to sync and say "Failed" in red?
Are you an ultramarathoner with super long or complex activities that might take a really long time to sync?
If you're not doing an activity, but just walk around wearing the watch, holding your phone, can you see your daily step count updating in Connect as you walk?
