The Dreaded White Spot Affliction

The white spot issue appearing on the FR 245 seems to be quite common - several locked threads on it. ~Mine is about 4 years old and has had the white spot for about 2 years but it was not particularly troubling. Now it has grown so it is making the watch unattractive, hard to read and now friends are noticing it and commenting on it.  It seems this is a product defect as there are lots of examples. Anyone managed to gt Garmin to replace theirs outside the two year warranty? Is it a case of just not buying another one and upgrading to an Apple watch or something where the product quality is more robust? Seems a problem Garmin should have fixed. Any advice gratefully received. Love the watch, it's functionality and it's price point, so shame it lets itself down with build quality.
