Frequently disconnecting from my phone - 245 non music

Hello,

My watch often disconnects from my phone, and reconnects by itself.
I've tried everything, reset the watch, the phone but nothing works, I still have the problem.
Everything is up to date, phone (pixel 7 with android 14) and watch 245 non music (v13)
It's been doing it for a few months, I don't know if it's a problem with the watch or with android or my phone...
I've had quite a few updates to the watch in the last year, so maybe this coincides with the problem.
I looked on the internet but couldn't find a solution.
It's a pain, I miss notifications and I sometimes can't change the music on my phone.
Do others have the same problem?
Does Garmin know about this?

Thank you in advance for your answers.

  • Hello! There could be some different concerns in this thread, but I want to make everyone aware of this FAQ: I’m Getting Frequent Bluetooth Connection Alerts on My Garmin Watch. These alerts can be turned off, and they are normal as long as you are beyond a certain Bluetooth range (there are some other factors that are listed).

If you are experiencing a different concern with Bluetooth connection, I recommend establishing a fresh connection to your phone and watch: Remove and Add a Device From the Garmin Connect App

    I hope this helps!

  • Hello

    Thank you but it doesn't help;

The problem is the bluetooth range of the 245 which has massively degraded

One meter or more far away form the phone, and the 245 is disconnected.

Phone in the pocket, you are on borderline, then its frequently disconnecting....

This is probably an hardware problem.

The watch still works and u can connect with the phone when u really near (less than one meter) and transfer data to Garmin connect

But you often miss notification when your phone is in the pocket or more of 1 meter far away.

    You can't control music too.

    Thats very frustrating

  • I can confirm what written by vinc_42. I have tested all the suggestions from Garmin, and more but the problem is still the same. Now I sent back the watch to Garmin Italy because is still under warranty. Let’s see…

  • Hello!  Your copy paste generic corporate response is of no use to the end user.  You, Garmin are aware of the issue, yet you offer no fix or projected resolution.  Look through the threads already posted regarding Forerunner 245 losing Bluetooth connectivity; some of them are 5+ years old.

Garmin know of teh issue but until it gets to the top, if it ever makes it that is, of the bug fix list; nothing will be done about it.

It looks like this is still a hardware problem, a common one that appears over time, and not a bug.

  • UPDATE 2024/08/20 - When my watch refuses to sync, I only have to disable the bluetooth on my phone for about 5 seconds and then reenable it. After a few moments, when the watch and phone have time to see each other, they will begin syncing again.

This leads me to believe that the communication problem is the phone deciding to ignore the watch signal after too many disconnects in some period of time, like an unstable signal. I have not found anywhere in the phone's settings to prevent this behavior. I believe this is related to the signal range degradation of the FR245 because of the more frequent disconnects. Unfortunately this renders the watch useless as a smartwatch or as a safety tracking device during exercises.

    Original post:

I have the same setup (Pixel 7a latest android and 245 non music v13) and same issue. Sometimes the watch reconnects by itself, and sometimes Connect App asks me to re-pair the watch again (even though I haven't unpaired it). I've tried deleting the app, resetting bluetooth settings on the phone, rebooting both devices, etc.
I think it's a combination of hardware failure (physically shorter bluetooth range) and a software problem (prompting re-pairing of the watch and phone because of too many disconnects in some amount of time, or something like that. I'm just guessing about something that causes the phone to ignore the watch bluetooth signal, because I can immediately see the watch when I begin the re-pairing screen without rebooting. So the watch's bluetooth signal is still on and the phone's bluetooth antenna can still talk to everything).

Sometimes I am able to reboot the phone and get the watch talking again, and sometimes that doesn't work and I have to re-pair.

It's pretty annoying and I have a feeling it will continue to degrade with time.

Latest news, maybe it will be useful to someone.

A long time ago a similar problem with FR55 arose.

A year and a half ago I also ruined the battery, apparently too deeply discharged.

I bought a FR245 instead and haven't had any problems since.

I decided to restore the FR55 so it wouldn't lie around like dead weight.

Today I replaced the battery in the workshop, a side effect of the replacement (besides the fact that the watch simply started working) - the range of BT was completely restored.

I don't know what the reason could be - I didn't order or pay for anything except replacing the battery.

We just touched the board and that's the effect.

  • Hi, I have also been having this same issue for the last few months. Same watch Garmin non Music 245, pixel7 current android software installed. It will completely shut off during my run using Power beats Pro. To be clear, I have had this watch for a couple years and NEVER had these issues until just recently. I am hoping this can be fixed. I am now currently having issues reconnecting my phone to the watch. It will not pair, even after I removed the 245 from the connect app......ugh super frustrated.
