V02max and training status not updating

I couldn't quite find my exact answer so I'm posting a new thread. Sorry for possibly overlapping other people's solutions. So long story short I wasn't getting a VO2 max update more than like once every 4 to 6 weeks. My training status was also not updating. This is on a 245.

I then bought a chest strap heart rate monitor just to see if I could actually get an accurate max heart rate. You see I had been doing some pretty intense heal runs and my wrist based heart rate was hovering around 100. When I took my pulse it was closer to 180 or 200.

After wearing the heart strap everything has fixed on its own. My max heart rate is better on my workouts and whenever I wear the chest strap which is usually just two or three times a week for my workout long run and maybe one aerobic run the vo2max updates.

I went with a Magene strap. About $30.

  • I love the optical sensor on mine and see it get to 180. Overall I think mine is pretty accurate though the chest strap is likely better for what you're talking about, quick spikes. I guess it's possible my vein alignment works better for the sensor.

On my first 245 a firmware upgrade cause the optical sensor to read HR lower than it was, I returned that watch (it was a week old) and the 245 I'm wearing now is updated to 11.6 and working OK. I see 12.1 is out and there is an optical HR correction for "some" units. Just out of curiosity what firmware version are you running?
