Gaps in HR data when using external chest strap sensor?!?

When using external HR chest strap in activity I got gaps in data reading. Watch stopped receiving HR signal from external sensor.

Tried different strap (with same sensor) same things happens. This wasn't an issue with my previous FR245 watch. There is some things I'm

suspicious about:

1.defective HR sensor?

2.buggy FR245 software?

3.interference with BT on mobile phone?

4.Aliens form the space?

Did anyone of you had similar issues?

  • Did anyone of you had similar issues?

    Yes!
Quite frequently with a HRM from Sigma, that was using Bluetooth Low Energy Standard.
To be even more precise: On every auto lap, when the FR 245 was showing infos about the lap, the connection was lost for a few seconds after, then came back.

    So I think,

    buggy FR245 software?

might be the most plausible explanation. Maybe it is also some issue with the built in Bluetooth hardware…

You have two options from my perspective:

    1. Just tolerate it. It’s annoying, but has nearly no impact to the overall data.

    2. Use a HRM sensor with ANT+ connection. For me, this solved the issue nearly completely.
Could count the dropouts since then on the fingers of one hand.
I used the Garmin HRM Dual and found it to be quite good. In the meantime I also own a HRM Pro for the running dynamic and a FR 255.

  • Thanks for a quick reply kind stranger! Im using Decathlon HRM DUAL chest strap (Bryton actually but Decathlon branded), when its paired with mobile phone via BT it works without any issues. How to force chest strap to connect to FR245 via BT connection? There is no switch on hrm sensor.. Also I used it with Vivoactive watch with no problems at all... I had another HRM from Polar, I will check that up..

  • How to force chest strap to connect to FR245 via BT connection?

My suggestion was to use ANT+ instead of BTLE!

That said, of course I cannot speak for your model of HR sensor. But on the Forerunner watch, you can go to Settings - Sensors - *Your sensor* - Connection type.
Don’t know, if you can change it, but you can check, which type is used. Wear your HRM while doing this, so it will be active.

  • We did it !

I just tested HRM chest strap while running with ANT+ protocol connection, and voila !!! No gaps, no hick-ups no disconnectings no gimmicks no bull**it.

Thanks on your guidance kind stranger!
