I had the same issue last year! The good thing was that Garmin exchanged my old watch to a brand new!
I have filled this form:

and sent my watch to them.. After confirmation that they got my watch they sent me brand new one.
I am from Lithuania and there is no official Garmin support here. I have called few LT resellers and they told me, that I have to buy a new or refurbished (for approx. the same amount of €) watch. But then I found that form on Garmin's site and Garmin helped me. They even provided courier pickup number which I couldn't use in Lithuania, but I just posted parcel via post office to Garmin in Germany and everything went well!
