No GPS map but has elevation

Has anyone experienced an outdoor run where there's elevation, pace, distance, and all the other data except for the map? I made sure the GPS was green before starting, so I'm a bit confused. First time that this has happened.

  • I don’t get your point.

Are you wondering that the Forerunner 245 has no map? It never had and all you can do is track back a recorded track or a track that you prepared before and uploaded to the watch via Garmin Connect.

Or are you wondering that elevation can be measured and displayed on the FR 245, even it has no map? That is no surprise, as you can calculate elevation with GPS signal, completely without map. Will not be as precise as barometric measurement, but good enough. I used it during hiking in the alps and it was always within 5-10 meters range to waypoints with elevation on it.

  • Usually when I run outside, there's a map of my route. But for some reason, there's no map of my route this time, even though there is elevation data (which confirms that the GPS was on).

  • Try sync with Runalyze or some other app and see of the map shows there?

  • Ok, you mean in Garmin Connect App (or web portal), right?

I never experienced a missing map, no

  • Yes I noticed this in Garmin Connect for the first time yesterday. I was actually investigating erroneous distance, there was no map so I exported the GPX. That appeared to produce a file but there was nothing to see in my GPX software. The file was 1k so I think it was empty. Elevation was missing too. Looks like it failed to record location.
