Forerunner 245 - Incorrect Pacing

I've had a Forerunner 245 for several months. When I first started running with it, pacing and distance seemed to be accurate.  However, over the past several weeks, my pacing seems all over the place.  I'm physically running at the same pace (flat surfaces, not hilly, etc), but the watch will fluctuate between 9:05, 9:55, 10:30, and 10:45 all within a matter of about 10-15 seconds.  I'm fairly consistent with my pace, so I know I don't have that wide of a spread in such a short period of time.

I've changed from "Smart Recording" to "Every Second Recording" to see if that impacted the accuracy, and it doesn't seem to have changed anything.  Are there other settings that I need to look at, or does it sound like there may be something wrong with the watch?

  • I've also seen this. My 245 has been giving reliable pacing for over a year - but as of the 11.60 update the instantaneous pace drops off to impossibly slow levels whenever the gps lock becomes flaky. Had no problems at all with any previous firmware; this looks like a bug in pace estimation in the 11.60 firmware.

  • I am also seeing this. today my pace (i'm slow folks) went from the 9-10min/mile range down to 4 and 5 at times, and, trust me, as much as i'd like that to be true, i know it is not!  It was bouncing all over the place.  HELP???

  • I'm just surprised this post has been up almost two weeks and no response from anyone from Garmin at all.  I saw another post where it took 3 months for a Garmin rep to respond.  This level of support is not a ringing endorsement for buying Garmin products.  C'mon guys... is this forum totally dead to you or what?

I also feel from time to time, that Garmin Mods should react, especially when addressed directly. But to be fair: This is NOT the Garmin Support!

It‘s just a Forum, which you accepted in the terms of use:

"Public Forum" means an area, site or feature offered as part of any Garmin Site that offers the opportunity for users to submit content ("User Submissions") for viewing by one or more Garmin Site users,

If you really need support, contact the official Garmin support!

  • Oh by the way, all, i contacted support and chatted online with them for some time.  Their 'solution' is to turn off smart recording and change the watch's recording frequency to every second.

While i will try this, if it "works", to me it will only mean one thing: there is a bug in smart recording in 11.60 as i have NEVER had this problem previously.

And if it doesn't work, hmmm...it seems to me that unless I have a hardware problem that literally occurred coincident with the 11.60 release, that there must still be a bug in the release, just perhaps not in the smart recording functionality.
