Activity storage almost full. Upload to Garmin Connect message

Forerunner 245 Software Version 11.10

I just received this message on my watch. - 'Activity storage almost full. Upload to Garmin Connect'.

I see from a previous thread that the answer is to delete the TempFIT folder and update the software. I have done that but it hasn't freed up any space. The watch is already running the latest software.

I see from another thread that you can delete the stored activities either using the watch or by connecting to a computer. I have done this and have now freed up space.

Shouldn't the watch automatically delete old activities automatically? Is this a bug?

  • I've had multiple Garmins over the years, none have automatically deleted old activities. I certainly prefer it that way as I do occasionally back up the "activities" folder from the Garmin device with a  USB cable to the computer. I don't want Garmin automatically deleting an activity that might be important to me. With all the folks reporting sync problems after software updates, I prefer the manual method.

If you're connecting to Strava, for the upload you can select "browse for file" and go to the activities folder on the watch, or where you've backed it up on the computer.. I like having my data multiple places; SSDs (flash memory) and Hard drives are like the old adage about motorcycle riders, "there are those that have gone done and those that will" .
