245 vs 255

I have asked this is the 255 forum.

I am deciding between the 245 and 255, currently I am using a 645.

I can get a 245 for less than half the price of the 255.  Aside from the 245 getting fewer updates and features. Has anyone here upgraded to the 255 and if so why.

If you are sticking with the 245, is there any issues with the watch or features that are missing.

  • My son lost his 245  few weeks before the 255 was announced. I bought a new 245 days before the 255 was released. I wish I had waited. The 255 has almost double the battery life, multi-frequency GPS/GNSS(Much more accurate), has a barometer, has temperature sensor and records breathing (with external HRM) during exercise. The 255 has a larger screen/face and is 10g heavier.  It depends on what you want to use it for. Here is a comparison on the Garmin site      https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/catalog/product/compareResult.ep?compareProduct=628939&compareProduct=780139      The 245 is a lot cheaper than the 255.

  • Thanks.  I have poured over the comparison table and that’s part of the problem :-)

The barometrer is really only useful for stair climbing, so not really bothered about that.

you are right though, the bigger screen and improved gps. However, I have never really had an issue with gps as I’m not in a place surrounded by buildings.

I think my main issue is the ongoing updates for the 255 will be better.  HRV readings may yield useable data in the future.

then there is price.  255 is £269 and 245 is £136.  I’m not sure the 255 extra bits are worth the cost.

  • I did get the 245 for about that price, so I can't complain too much.
