Which device is measuring my heart rate - my HRM Pro strap or Forerunner 245 watch?

Hello everybody. Hope your training is going well.

I wear both an HRM Pro strap and a Forerunner 245 Music watch when jogging.

But I don’t know which is measuring my heart rate. I’m hoping it’s the strap as I guess this would be more accurate.

According to Connect, the Forerunner is the preferred activity tracker. But the field is greyed out and no other device is listed (ie, there’s no HRM Pro option).

I suspect the strap is sending my heart rate data to the watch, and that this is then relayed to Connect.

Does anyone know if this is correct please?

  • I'm wondering the same myself.

  • „Preferred Activity Tracker“ has nothing to do with how the HR is measured during activities.

If you use a HR strap, automatically it will be the preferred device for HR during activities. Unfortunately it will not be explicitly shown by the Forerunner. But you can verify: Use your strap with your FR, start an activity and then lift the watch and have a look on the optical sensor. It is not in use, light is not pulsing.
