Calorie count, mountain biking

My Garmin 245 calorie count always seems a bit low compared to other people I ride with. Today's ride was 90 minutes of single track including some steep climbs and I registered 795 calories. Of the people I rode with, one registered 1200 calories and one e bike rider registered 850 calories! Both of these riders used garmin watches but have a mountain bike option rather than just the cycling option on the 245. Is there a way of adding mountain biking as an activity on the 245 or are there any other settings I should be checking?
