Active Calorie Counter

Is it possible to burn 200 calories with an overall of 867 steps in a day with no other activities ? The watch shows this way.
During the day, for some time my heart rate was in the range of 105-115 and rest of the time it was 75-85.  
Does Garmin someway calculate the calories from the heart rate? 
Any explanation would highly be appreciated.
