Horse riding messing up training status

I m using Garmin to track my running and to pace my horse for endurance riding.

For horse riding I am using Any Sport Pro with the activity set to horse riding. The horse riding activities are displayed correctly in Garmin Connect.

Unfortunately using the watch for horse riding, seems to break all the following features of the Training Status:

  • Training Load
  • Recovery Time
  • Race Predictor

For example, after only 1 hour of easy riding, my Recovery Time jumped to more than 3 days. Whereas after running 10k, it only recommended 25 hours, which feels reasonable to me.
Another example is the Race Predictor - my forecast for a 5k is about 5 minutes under my personal record.

It seems like Garmin assumes, that, while riding, I am carrying the horse instead of the horse carrying me ;-D

  • Recovery time is based on heart rate data. If you are getting a a higher recovery time after horse riding than running that is because you are exerting more effort while riding than you are doing while running. This could be because you are working at a higher intensity, higher average hear rates or more time spent in high heart rate zones. Or you are riding for a lot longer than you are running.
