correcting missing GPS data due to slow satellite connection

I'm currently running in the UAE, away from my UK home.  Last night, my Forerunner 245 was taking far too long to GPS lock, so I started the clock and began to run: when I do this at home, the Forerunner is able to to start recording distance fairly accurate.

Last night, however, while the timer was started, no distance was recorded until about 6km into my run.

Is there any easy way of editing the GPS data (even roughly) to add those 6km?  They'll resemble my previous run, as it was the same route.

Thanks!

p.s. I've just synced my Forerunner via Garmin connect to reduce, I hope, the connection time.  Is there anything else I should do?
