Spikes in heart monitoring

I get spikes in heart monitor when I'm working on my desk. For some reason, the heart rate goes up to 150-170 in spikes 3-7 times a day, and I get warnings that it is too high.

My real heart rate is steadily +- 70.  This throws off my daily and weekly data. I did not find a way to correct this, and I do not want to wear an external sensor all the time...

  • I get this occasionally. I assume you've already read over the support document - The Heart Rate Sensor on My Garmin Watch Is Not Accurate

Changes in blood volume are impacted not just by heart rate. Any type of movement could potentially throw off the heart rate reading. Also, I don't believe all day heart rate is possible from a chest strap, only during activities.

  • I've read it but I don't really see an explanation why I get spikes while I'm in front of my pc in a meeting.

I'm not doing excercises, moving, getting extra blood, changing the location of the watch or strap... And still I get warnings that my heart rate is too high.

  • This doesn't help you now, but this is probably one of the reasons Garmin has updated the OHR in their latest watches to Elevate V4, like the Venu 2 and 945 LTE. I'm sure going forward most new watches will have this. I now have the 945 LTE. There's a bigger bump on the back, but I do notice better all-day HR.
