Has anyone come from a Forerunner 645

Evening,

I currently have a Forerunmer 645 which I really like.  I have managed to pickup a Forerunner 245 really cheap and was wondering if its worth swapping over to it and selling my 645.  They are both non music versions.

Thanks

David

  • I did. I only switched because the part that holds the strap broke for me after the 645 took a fall.

The only thing I miss from the 645 is the barometric altimeter. The 245 also lacks garmin pay, which doesn't bother me since I have my phone with me all the time and I just use Gpay.

The things you gain from from going to the 245 is the pulse ox (which half the time isn't very accurate if the watch is just the tiniest bit loose), and some software stuff like improved sleep tracking, daily suggest workouts, track mode, widget glances, pace pro, and body battery.

Also, I think the 645 hasn't gotten a software update in a while, where as the 245 is still getting updates allowing the watch to get some new features and bug fixes.

  • Similarly to the previous answer, I switched because the strap binding post broke but for no external reason I could see.

However unlike the previous responder I don't miss the barometric altimeter as mine was hilariously inaccurate, like reporting 1500 feet of climb on a flat 5k course. This was not a one-off, it was never any use.

I do miss the Garmin Pay facility but most of all I miss the optical HRM of the 645 which always gave credible results unlike the one on the 245 which I gave up on and use an external Polar optical HRM.
