The most over-hyped piece of Junk ever?

Sent one 245 off as it developed the white spot error, so Garmin UK replaced it with a brand new one, which I thought was great, but even though there is no white spot error, just like the last one, it completely refuses to count cadence at all, no matter how many soft resets.

Plus, the last 3 days it says I#ve done no steps!!

What the ??

Any Ideas?

Surely I cannot be the only one with these problems?

Matt

  • it completely refuses to count cadence at all
the last 3 days it says I#ve done no steps!!

This indicates that the accelerometer is not working properly for some reason.

    Any Ideas?

Yes. You've got another broken watch.

Surely I cannot be the only one with these problems?

You're not the only one. Garmin devices are not the most reliable. That said, getting two malfunctioning units in a row is rare.

  • Like tmk2 wrote: Unfortunately you seem to have received a watch with accelerometer, that is broken.

Bad luck. Contact your Garmin Service again.

But though I can feel your frustration: Why do you have to rage like that in the forum? You know, there are thousands, probably even millions of FR245 users, that have never had any problem with their device. Just like me. I had none of the hardware-related problems until now and no serious software problem, just a glitch on rare occasions.

So, why not calm down a little?

  • why not read the forum as a LOT of people are having problems.

When I fork out £200+ for something that claims to do X, Y and Z...I expect it to do them.

    Matt

  • Sorry Matt, like I said before: I understand your frustration. But reading a forum will always give you the impression, that a product is broken completely. No matter, what the price is.

it‘s called bias: obviously a lot of people with a problem will write here, at the same time nearly nobody with a working fine device will come here and write about it.
I‘m just saying: You had bad luck, contact service, and no, not every FR245 is broken. Mine is working fine right now and since over a year.

    Hey Matt,

I show that your device is registered to two accounts. When you register the product to an account after the first registration, the first/original account will no longer track your steps. This is outlined in our FAQ here: What is the Activity Tracking Feature on My Garmin Watch?

Let me know if you need any further assistance.

  • Maybe as has said, check your settings first BEFORE laying the blame on the watch.  People are quick to point fingers and lay the blame before realising they caused the problem themselves!!  Also, as has stated, only people with issues tend to post here.  All those with perfectly good watched don't so the forums are extremely biased.

  • My 245M has been super reliable. Still getting solid 4 day battery life (without GPS) after 2 years. Buttons and screen still work as good as new. Never had any crashing issues while recording an activity (+- 3 a week).

Software wise, disappointed that Garmin did not bring on device sleep detection and Concept 2 support as promised, but hardware wise, the device is rock solid, especially when compared to other popular devices like Fitbits and Apple devices.

  • i have checked the settings and i only use one account, stopped using other one months ago and watc has been fine, it IS the watche's fault, as in it's broken, so looks like i will have to send it in, again...lol,

  • Don't make out like it's user error etc...just look at the first page of the forum....full of posts about problems etc.

  • Agreed, but like we've tried to point out these forums are normally used by people who have problems.  The vast majority who don't never come here.  I only use them for the beta releases and have never had an issue that hasn't been highlighted in a software release.  So yes posts full of problems but equally, i would guess over 90% who don't.
